About FixFirstBot
FixFirstBot is the visitor you may see in your store's logs when someone uses the free Fix First store check. It reads a few public pages of a Shopify store, once, when a store owner or their consultant asks it to. It never logs in.
What it reads
- robots.txt, to find out whether you want it there
- Your home page
- /products.json, the public list of your products that every Shopify store serves
- One product page, and the same page with a size or colour chosen
- A sample of your main menu links, up to 15, to see that they work
- Up to four of your policy pages (privacy, returns, terms, shipping), the ones your footer links to
- One address that does not exist on your store, to see that your error page reports it as missing
- The small icon and the sharing picture your home page points to, only the first part of each, to see that they load
That is at most about thirty requests per check, a few at a time, and a store is checked at most once every 10 minutes: anyone checking it within that time sees the same result. It does not crawl your store on a schedule, and it never opens your cart or checkout.
How it identifies itself
Every request carries this user agent:
FixFirstBot/1.0 (+https://erikeng.se/shopify/fix-first/bot; free store check, public pages only)Ask it to stay away
Add this to your robots.txt and your store will not be checked. FixFirstBot reads that file first, every time:
User-agent: FixFirstBot
Disallow: /If your store uses bot protection
If your store sits behind a service that blocks automated visitors, the free check says it was turned away, and it does not try to get around that.
